What his clients say:

For a number of years I pieced together my training. At a certain point, though, I realized that if I was dedicating significant time and resources to triathlon, I wanted to do what I was doing most effectively. I also came to appreciate that investing in myself was important and worthwhile!

In this process of solidifying my commitment to the sport, I was incredibly fortunate to be introduced to Ryan. I first connected with Ryan for a run gait analysis, which helped me both address some small, yet ongoing, pain I had been experiencing while running, and also become more efficient in my stride. Soon there after, I consulted with Ryan about coaching and I appreciated his holistic approach as well as his commitment to staying connected to the joy we find in the experience.

As a female athlete, it’s important to me to work with someone who understands that women are not just small men. Ryan has consistently shown a commitment to incorporating awareness of female physiology, working with (not against) menstrual cycles, and even understanding the significance of having women represented and valued at different kinds of events.

I have a full non-triathlon life (busy job, three children, etc.), so having a coach who both understands and prioritizes a healthy balance in what I do is also a necessity. While challenging me and helping me continually evolve, Ryan also helps me remember the effects of global stress and the importance of listening to my body. For the past two+ years I have benefited from Ryan’s personal, heart-felt, deliberate, informative, and encouraging approach. I have achieved more than I thought possible over this time of working with Ryan and I look forward continuing to benefit from Ryan’s support in the years to come!

Working with Ryan Davis over the last year to achieve my goal of completing the Lake Placid Ironman has been an amazing experience! Coach Davis went above and beyond the expectations of a coach as he optimized my training, kept me injury free and helped connect me to people after my recent move to Western Mass. First, he developed weekly training plans that he adapted to fit my busy schedule and to optimize the benefits of training each week. I was really impressed with how my fitness levels were improving each week and how I was able to push myself to a comfortable level, without feeling too fatigued to keep up with my work.

Additionally, coach was able to expertly navigate my busy work schedule and vacations to make my training plan each week achievable. He definitely tailors the plan each week to the individual athlete account for other life priorities and the training load from prior weeks. Importantly, Coach Davis kept me injury free. Before starting with coach, I had completed a 70.3 triathlon but had struggled with low back pain and hamstring injuries. From the beginning we focused on strength conditioning and gradually building my training. Within a few months my back pain had gone away and the hamstring tightness that occurred with longer runs also stopped occuring. I did have some foot/ankle tendinitis (from skiing) that kept recurring during the last few months of training, but coach was quick to stop painful activities and showed much more patience than I would have to allow the foot and tendons to fully recover. Indeed, I had no issues with my foot on the day of the race.

Lastly, Coach Davis is an excellent motivator and a great person! His upbeat attitude and optimism is contagious which helped to mentally prepare me to complete the hard workouts. He even traveled to lake placid to support his athletes participating in the ironman, giving positive encouragement and helpful advice throughout the whole day! Additionally, coach helped to connect me to people as I was new in the area and didn't know anybody. I joined the master's swim team at Holyoke which helped to improve my form tremendously. He also suggested other people or groups that I could join for all 3 sports.

I would personally like to thank my Coach, Ryan Davis. After my last marathon, he had me on a training routine that helped my body recover and feel better, stronger and fresher than I ever have. Training for my first Ironman was an incredible experience and I could not have done it without him. He made sure each and every week my training schedule didn’t run my life, but rather fit in with it. If you race tri’s and don’t have a coach, I’d advise you to check him out. He works with you to optimize your workouts within the time constraints of your everyday life, is a USAT certified coach who knows his stuff, and will get you feeling faster and stronger with each day!

Ryan's coaching was exactly what I needed when I signed up for an Ironman. It was a well-balanced workout regime that kept me injury free for 9 months of heavy volume training. I really appreciated Ryan's flexibility and planning during the pandemic. Despite pools being shut down he still implemented workouts that utilized my swim muscles. What was really great was the swim analysis we did back in February. He used a GoPro and we broke down my form bit by bit. Prior to the pools closing I was swimming faster and more efficiently than ever before.

My fitness improved immensely under his plan. I was in the best running shape of my life during this Ironman training block. I've trained for 4 stand alone marathons and my pace was never as good as it was during this training period. I find that very impressive considering I was logging a lot of miles on the bike. As for the bike; my FTP went up dramatically.

I have known Coach Ryan since we raced together at UMass and he is even more passionate and knowledgeable about triathlon now than he was then. I trained for my first full distance triathlon from December 2019 through September 2020. I wasn’t sure if I really needed a coach until the training began.

My basic goal was to finish, but I also had a goal time of 11 hours in mind. He worked with me to make sure my goals were reasonable as the race approached. For competitive hobbyists like me, Coach Ryan understands that life gets in the way and workouts don’t always go as planned. When I missed a workout, and even a week of workouts, he adjusted my schedule accordingly, which is the biggest advantage of having a coach. I was able to spend my time focusing on each workout, my family, and my job rather than making changes to my workouts when I got sick or went on vacation.

I have a running background and even my friends in the local running club were seeing how much faster I was getting over a short period of time. Cycling was my greatest weakness and he helped me ride faster than I thought possible, even achieving my reach goal of 20+ mph for the full-distance race! Coach Ryan helped me train the way I needed to, write out a detailed race plan, get my nutrition in order, and execute the plan on race day. He knows that training can be monotonous and grueling, so mixing it up with fun ideas like cross training and donut rides can be part of the plan if you need a change of pace.

With his help, I achieved my overall goal of sub-11 hours in a self-supported full-distance race and he was with me every step of the way for my training, even literally during the run leg of my race.
